| GOES SATELLITE VIEW IN 3D |
|---|
Three-Dimension Stereo-View of a Mid-Latitude Cyclone from GOES satellite infrared imagery . This image shows a "self stereo" picture of a mid-latitude cyclone. The data are from the GOES satellite infrared scanner, and the false color scheme distinguishes deep convective clouds with high, cold cloudtops (green and brighter white) from lower level clouds with warmer cloudtops (darker grey). A stereo movie of 20 hours of such images illustrates the counter-clockwise cyclonic swirling of a mid-latitude storm system with deep convection developing within the larger scale system.
To view this image in 3D, cross your eyes so that your left
eye views the
panel on the right, and right eye views the panel on the left. Concentrate on
the word "STEREO" until it comes into focus. When your eyes become comfortable
with this "unnatural" viewpoint, then browse over the remaining portions of the
frame.
