REMOTELY SENSING WATER VAPOR

This image was sensed by the GOES meteorological satellite using an imaging channel centered in a water vapor absorption band in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. While water in the vapor form is invisible to your eyes (meaning that there is no appreciable reflection of visible sunlight by water vapor molecules), it is quite easy to detect its presence and distribution by remote sensing instruments operating in this infrared band.
