Weather balloons help us to forecast smog episodes!

Kids who send a letter or e-mail to Governor Glendening telling him where his weather balloon is get their own (smaller) balloons free!

When you find the Governor's balloon, hurry to the Ozonia Royal Post Office, third floor.

Balloons will be launched at:

11:00 am

1:00 pm

3:00 pm

5:00 pm

from the grass in front of the new Computer and Space Sciences Building.

This is one of several activities that Department of Meteorology scientists engage in to help predict and lessen photochemical (Los Angeles-type) smog episodes in the Baltimore/Washington area. For futher information travel to Ozonia on the third floor of the new Computer and Space Sciences Building.

Our research is supported by the Maryland Departments of the Environment and Natural Resources, by BGE through EPRI and by NSF, NOAA, and NASA.
